Frappeverse Mumbai 2026: Frappe Bets Everything on 100% Open Source
For two days in August, the Nehru Centre Auditorium in Worli turned into the centre of India's open-source software universe. Frappeverse Mumbai 2026, held on 21 and 22 August, marked the 12th edition of Frappe's community conference: over a thousand attendees, a run of keynotes delivered by the people who write the code, and a message repeated until nobody could miss it. Everything on that stage is free, and everything on that stage is open source.
Here is what actually got announced, why it matters if you build on Frappe or run ERPNext, and what we heard on the partner floor as a Gold Sponsor at Booth 02.
We don't do locked-in features": the FOSS philosophy on full display
Frappe's positioning going into the event was blunt. As founder Rushabh Mehta framed it, Frappe is "India's largest FOSS project by some measure" and ERPNext is the world's most popular open-source enterprise resource planning software. Critically:

That isn't a marketing line stapled onto a paywalled product. There is no enterprise edition held back, no per-user licence, no premium accounting module. The numbers behind the stance:

The second theme of the keynote was even more pointed: de-Google yourself. Which brings us to the biggest launch of the event.
Frappe Suite: seven apps, one codebase, zero Google
The headline announcement was Frappe Suite, a fully featured open-source, self-hostable alternative to Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. Mail, Calendar, Meet, Drive, Writer, Slides and Sheets were previously seven separate repositories. They are now merged into a single monorepo — shared code, cross-app integrations by simple import, and one install instead of seven.
- Frappe Meet went from what the team called a bare-bones app a year ago to supporting meetings scheduled via Calendar, live captions, polls, reactions, end-to-end encrypted calls, noise cancellation and host moderation. Recordings drop straight into Drive.
- Frappe Mail now carries Frappe's own company email, and the team has moved off Gmail entirely. New features include a Screener that holds first-time senders out of the main inbox, shared mailboxes for addresses like accounts@, and an all-inboxes view.
- Frappe Drive has become the content layer for Writer, Slides and Sheets, with folder-structure uploads, in-browser media streaming and resumable downloads.
- Frappe Slides added offline editing with sync on reconnect, PDF export, shapes and connectors, and in-slide tables.
- Frappe Sheets demoed conditional formatting, VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP, configurable pivot tables and collaborative sharing.
Frappe is dogfooding hard. Internal usage shown onstage: 169 Mail users, 460 Slides users, 765 meetings, 1,690 documents and 19,678 files, plus 2,932 meeting minutes across 107 unique participants in just three weeks of Meet.
The caveat, stated plainly: The unified Suite home screen is still unreleased, and public release is targeted for the end of 2026. Plan for it in the next budget cycle rather than this quarter's roadmap.
30,000 members, 250 apps: the community milestone
Frappe led its conference campaign with two numbers that define the ecosystem's scale in 2026: 30,000+ community members and 250+ open-source apps. Supporting that reach: 25 compliance apps, country apps for 14 markets on Frappe Cloud, and 34 in-app languages driven largely by community translation contributions.
Frappe Cloud, compute-based pricing, and a new Pune office
- Frappe Cloud now hosts 30,000 sites for 5,600 customers, handles 2,000 deployments a day, and adds roughly 1,000 new sites daily, with 9,000 custom apps installed.
- Pricing is compute- and storage-based, not per user. No seat tax, no module fees.
- Frappe Cloud V2 was unveiled: a rewrite onto per-customer virtual machines, split into Pilot, Atlas and Central — targeted for January 2027. Roughly 90% of platform downtime traced back to databases, and 60% of that to multi-tenancy.
- Pilot is usable today as a self-hostable Bench replacement, running in around 40–45 MB of memory with backups, monitoring, a firewall and a SQL playground included. Bench has been officially archived.
- Frappe is opening a new Pune office — the Frappe Cloud team moves in first.
The partner floor: where the ecosystem shows up
Keynotes set direction. The exhibition floor is where you learn what people are actually running.
Alongside the auditorium sessions, the partner and sponsor floor ran across both days: ERPNext implementation partners, product companies building on Frappe, and service providers from across India and beyond. For most attendees this was the working half of the conference. - You are running production infrastructure on Bench. It has been archived, and Pilot is the replacement.

- You are on ERPNext v15 and have been deferring v16. The release is stable and the ecosystem has moved to it.
Wait if:
- You are eyeing Frappe Suite as a Google Workspace replacement. Pilot the individual apps by all means, but do not schedule a company-wide cutover against a home screen that has not shipped.
- You are a Frappe Cloud customer holding out for V2. January 2027 is the target, and nothing about your current setup breaks in the meantime.
